Aric Christopher Vilks was pronounced dead at Providence Medford Medical Center, where he was taken following the 1:30 a.m. wreck at the intersection of Tolo and Scenic roads near Gold Hill, Jackson County sheriff’s Capt. Joe Puckett said. A teenage girl who was Vilks’ passenger at the time was taken to Providence with "serious" injuries, Puckett said. No further information on the passenger was available. Witnesses at the scene told police that the 1990 Honda Accord driven by Vilks was headed south on Tolo Road before the accident. The vehicle apparently flipped after not yielding at a stop sign at a T-intersection where the two roads meet, Puckett said. Investigators are not certain whether Vilks or his passenger were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. It is also unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved. Puckett said the case has been turned over to the county medical examiner, whose investigation is expected to take a few weeks.
