Buckley cruises to easy win in House race MailTribune.com Writer Posted Nov. 4, 2014 @ 8:05 pm Updated Nov 4, 2014 at 11:36 PM Posted Nov. 4, 2014 @ 8:05 pm Updated Nov 4, 2014 at 11:36 PM » Social News Incumbent state Rep. Peter Buckley, D-Ashland, easily held onto his District 5 seat, leading Republican and political newcomer Nick Card 15,479 to 8,523 in returns released at about 10 p.m. Tuesday. Buckley, 57, was first elected to the Oregon House in 2004. He served as chairman of the House Education Committee from 2007 to 2009 before taking over as co-chairman of the powerful Ways and Means Committee, which controls the purse strings of the Legislature. Buckley says education is his top priority and he hopes to continue the rebuilding of K-12 education budgets that began in the 2013 session of the Legislature. Card, 25,  a  South Medford High School valedictorian who later earned an engineering degree from Harvey Mudd College, previously worked as a  patent engineer for a law firm in Mountain View, Calif. He has no political experience but ran a write-in campaign in May to earn the Republican nomination in the race for Buckley's seat.   MailTribune.com Writer Posted Nov. 4, 2014 @ 8:05 pm Updated Nov 4, 2014 at 11:36 PM » Comment or view comments Reader Reaction » STAY INFORMED Email NewsLetter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox. calendar Connect with MailTribune.com Facebook Twitter RSS Back to top Reader Services Reader Services Home Subscriptions Subscriber controls Contact us Submissions Photos Events Letters to the editor Corrections Announcements Obituaries Story ideas Since you asked Alerts Email Alerts RSS Feeds Text Alerts Advertise Media Kit Home Products and services Ad rates Advertising contacts Mail Tribune Daily Tidings The Nickel Shop Our Valley Blogs Stay Informed Email newsletter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox.
