Which agency, the City of Ashland or ODOT, is responsible for maintaining this section of road/street, and when do they plan to start making the necessary repairs? — Robert J., Ashland We're glad you asked, Robert, since both departments handle different sections of the road and its maintenance. "The City of Ashland is responsible for maintenance of the section of Ashland Street between Siskiyou Boulevard and Faith Avenue, near the railroad overpass. The Oregon Department of Transportation is responsible for Ashland Street (Highway 66) from that point on," explains Mike Morrison, Public Works superintendent with the City of Ashland. According to Morrison, the reconstruction of Ashland Street has been placed in the capital improvement program and they are working on obtaining the necessary funds for the project. "We’re hopeful we’ll have adequate funding to fully repair this section of Ashland Street by the summer of 2018. Until that time we will continue filling potholes and making improvements where we can," says Morrison. The next time you notice part of the street in disrepair, don't hesitate to call the Public Works department.
