Medford police detectives arrested 40-year-old Chad Jay Renick Wednesday on 10 felony charges of first-degree criminal mischief after executing a search warrant at his home in the 300 block of Oxford Street. He remained lodged in the Jackson County Jail Thursday on $75,000 bail, according to jail records. Since April 2014, Renick allegedly broke storefront windows and placed roofing nails in multiple Medford business parking lots, including Southern Oregon Neuropsychological Clinic, Personnel Source, La Clinica Health Care, Medford Medical Clinic and Shlesinger & De Villeneuve Attorneys, according to a Medford police news release. Renick allegedly called some of the businesses and made suicidal and homicidal threats, according to Medford police Lt. Kevin Walruff. Although Walruff couldn't describe the threats further, he said Renick's alleged threats were similar. "That's what made him consistent across the board," Walruff said. "They all had similar type comments. "His name kept popping up." The alleged spree began in April 2014 after Renick suffered an on-the-job injury while working as a painter for Personnel Source, according to a court document filed in Renick's case. Renick allegedly filed an insurance claim and became disgruntled during the process, the document says. He then allegedly began placing roofing nails in the temporary employment agency's parking lot, in the 100 block of Hawthorne Street, the document states. From April 2014 through 2015, Renick allegedly placed nails in the parking lots of Medford Medical Clinic and Haven Clinic because he was refused treatment at the facilities, court documents say. Between June and September of this year, Renick allegedly placed nails on the parking lot and broke a large window at Neuropsychological Clinic because he was upset with his treatment, the documents state. Renick also allegedly broke multiple windows at Personnel Source in two separate incidents in July. Inside Renick's home, investigators found nails that matched the ones collected at parking lots, the documents allege. Police said they also found a piece of clothing that matched surveillance video footage. "It wasn't necessarily that he was hiding, we just had to make sure he was the right suspect," Walruff said. The damage caused by the vandalism is in the thousands of dollars, according to court documents. Police are seeking additional victims who may have driven through business parking lots and suffered tire damage.
