Simpson" on FX. The episode ended with the Marcia Clark character saying, "Johnnie Cochran, motherf----r." I was shocked! I know channels like HBO and Showtime say and show everything. But what are the standards for a cable channel? I thought they were similar to regular networks until I heard this! — Bill, Medford The recent use of that swear word on "American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson" caused a national stir and a wave of social media questions from viewers. But according to CBS News, the FX Network was not breaking any Federal Communications Commission regulations on profanity. "Unlike broadcast networks CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox and the CW, basic cable networks aren't required to follow FCC decency guidelines that prohibit the use of certain curse words, violence and sexual content," CBS News reported in an online article. Cable channels have generally chosen to self-regulate their use of profanity to avoid offending viewers and advertisers, CBS News said.
