Wild finish helps Phoenix salvage split with Chieftains TALENT - Needing a break to earn at least a split with the Rogue River softball team, Phoenix got it from an unlikely source Saturday afternoon in Game 2 of a Skyline Conference doubleheader. After Rogue River's Katie Glasscock tossed a two-hit shutout for a 1-0 victory in the opener, the Chieftains appeared en route to a sweep with a 1-0 lead in Game 2. But a wild throw from the Chieftains' standout catcher helped the Pirates (10-5, 7-4 Skyline) to four runs in the fifth and a 4-1 win. "Everything kind of fell apart for them real quick," Phoenix coach Rich Ficek said. "That's what we've been needing all year, so it was kind of nice to have that happen in our favor for a change." Amanda Moore had an RBI single in the pivotal fifth, but the key to the Pirates' rally came when April Darby and Jennifer Dunlop scored following a passed ball and subsequent high throw back to the pitcher by Allison Bailey. "So far this year it's been one mistake and someone wins," said Ficek. "I didn't think it would be Bailey making the mistake though. She's a very good catcher." An error in the first game helped Rogue River win the opener, with Jill Artoff reaching in the third on an error. After two straight fielder's choice plays, Artoff scored on a single by K.K. Smith for the game's lone run. Kristi Frederick drove in Rogue River's lone run in the second game, going 2-for-3 for the Chieftains.
