The Wiyos play old-timey American music that they call "vaudevillian ragtime-jugband-blues and hillbilly swing." The group is touring in support of their second record, "Hat Trick", which was inspired by the old-time stringbands, blues singers, jugbands and hot jazz ensembles of the 1920s and '30s', as well as the actual process and method of recording that was prevalent in the early period of documented American music. Monday, July 17 ballet in the park: Ballet Rogue will present its annual free Ballet in the Park performances at 7:30 p.m. Mondays July 10-31, at the Butler Band Shell, Lithia Park, Ashland. songs of shakespeare: Southern Oregon Repertory Singers, under the direction of Dr. Paul French, will present its fourth annual "Songs of Shakespeare" at 8:30 p.m. Monday, July 17, on the Elizabethan Stage at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Ashland. There will be a pre-concert lecture by Ed Wight at 7:30 p.m. in the Bill Patton Gardens on the OSF campus. OSF actors will present excepts from Shakespeare's plays and sonnets and the singers will present musical selections. Laurie Hunter, harpist, will accompany the singers. In the event of rain, the concert will move to the Angus Bowmer Theatre with seating on a first-come, first-served basis. Tuesday, July 18 folk concert: SeeSaw, a folk trio of local musicians Nancy Spencer and Lisa Spencer and Portland-based Rick Meyers will present an album release concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, at the Ashland Congregational Church, 717 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. When a group of passengers on the midnight bus to Topeka take refuge from a snowstorm at Grace's Diner, the locals and their guests get to know each other and themselves a little better. The play runs through Oct. 29. CYrano de Bergerac: Edmond Rostand's romantic drama (translated by Anthony Burgess) plays on the Elizabethan Stage, directed by Laird Williamson. The flamboyant poet, swordsman and wit Cyrano, convinced he is unworthy of being loved by the beautiful Roxane, pens love poems to her as if they came from the young suitor Christian. The play runs through Oct. 7 on the Elizabethan Stage. THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST: Directed by Peter Amster, Oscar Wilde's drawing-room play in which John Worthing and his friend Algernon Moncrieff fall in love with two young ladies who have their hearts set on marrying men named Ernest. In response, the two men engage in an elaborate deception featuring a fictional wayward brother and an imaginary invalid. The show runs through Oct. 28 in the Angus Bowmer Theatre. INTIMATE APPAREL: Directed by Timothy Bond, Lynn Nottage's play visits the world of Esther Mills, a hard-working, independent black seamstress in 1905 Manhattan, who crafts exquisite undergarments for ladies. The play won five major awards, including the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for the Best Play of the 2003-04 Season. The show runs through Oct. 18, at the Angus Bowmer Theatre. king john: Directed by John Sipes, William Shakespeare's play explores the reign of King John, Eleanor of Aquitaine's son, whose reign was a mixture of craftiness and intrigue. Through Oct. 29, at the New Theatre. The Merry Wives of Windsor: William Shakesperare's comic romp directed by Andrew Tsao plays on the Elizabethan Stage. Falstaff is looking for love and money and tries to con two married ladies, Mistresses Ford and Quickly, out of both. But Falstaff is outwitted and taught a few lessons. The play runs through Oct. 6 on the Elizabethan Stage. The Two Gentlemen of Verona: William Shakespeare's comedy directed by Bill Rauch plays on the Elizabethan Stage. Two young men, Proteus and and Valentine, learn the pitfalls of thoughtless young love from a variety of sources — including a dog. The play runs through Oct. 8 on the Elizabethan Stage. THE WINTER'S TALE: Directed by OSF Artistic Director Libby Appel, Shakespeare's play explores the consequences of the poisonous jealousy of King Leontes. Only the passage of time and the loss of some of his dearest loves can bring forgiveness and reunion. The show runs through Oct. 29 in the Angus Bowmer Theatre. The play won the 1992 Best Play Award in the National Playwriting Competition.
