A minor was sent in to eight businesses to buy alcohol Friday in four Jackson County cities and was refused each time, according to the Oregon Liquor Control Commission. "It’s fairly rare in the state," said Shirley Hassberger, the OLCC’s regional manager based in Medford. "I’ve been here 15 months and it’s the first time we’ve had that here. So we’re delighted." During the compliance checks, young people age 18-20 attempt to buy alcohol to see if clerks check for identification. The decoys, who are supervised by OLCC inspectors, carry their own legal identification and are advised not to lie about their age. Store clerks who sell alcohol to the minor decoy are cited and face fines of up to $300. Advertisement The businesses tested randomly Friday were: Green Springs Inn, Ashland; the Albertsons in Central Point; the Tolo Tavern, Central Point; Adam’s Deli and Catering in Medford; Eden Valley Orchards/Edenvale Estate Winery near Medford; La Casa del Pueblo restaurant in Medford; Fish Lake Resort; and the Golden Phoenix Chinese Restaurant in Phoenix.
