Extreme fire danger brings new restrictions New restrictions for the general public and logging operations went into effect Tuesday in light of the season's extreme fire danger. Outdoor burning, fireworks use, smoking and using vehicles in areas of flammable vegetation, using chain saws and power-driven machinery, cutting, grinding and welding metal and non-agricultural mowing of dry grass are prohibited. Campfires can only be in improved campgrounds. Vehicles must be driven on improved roads free of flammable vegetation. These restrictions apply to state, county, private and Bureau of Land Management lands. Between Grave Creek and the mouth of Watson Creek on the wild and scenic section of the Rogue River, increased restrictions on fires and smoking are in effect. Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire is prohibited except for pressurized liquid or gas stoves in areas free of vegetation between the river and the high water mark. Smoking is prohibited except while aboard a boat on a waterway or on sand and gravel bars naturally free of flammable vegetation. Each boat must carry at least one shovel and bucket. An industrial fire precaution level 3 on state, county, private and Bureau of Land Management lands prohibits commercial and industrial forest operations from cable-yarding and using powersaws for felling and bucking trees.
