A Jackson County Circuit Court jury Wednesday acquitted James Leonard Rechonie, 61, of two counts of attempted aggravated murder and first-degree burglary. Jurors didn't believe arguments that Rechonie — angered that an acquaintance baked a frozen pizza at his Fielder Creek Road home and left behind melted cheese — tried to kill the man by firing bullets into his trailer. Rechonie had allowed the other man to park a trailer on his property. Because the trailer wasn't connected to electrical, water or sewer systems, Rechonie invited the man to use his home when necessary, said David Orr, deputy district attorney for Jackson County. The men's dispute over the pizza took place after Rechonie returned home from a bar on Dec. 13, 2005, with his girlfriend, 52-year-old Teri Lee Powers, of Bullhead City, Ariz. Jackson County sheriff's deputies initially jailed Rechonie on charges of first-degree criminal mischief, two counts of menacing, endangering a minor and resisting arrest. Orr, believing case law supported more serious charges, re-indicted Rechonie on charges of attempted aggravated murder and burglary. Rechonie spent a week in jail before posting bail. Orr charged Powers, who reportedly egged Rechonie on, with solicitation for murder before removing the count Tuesday. Powers pleaded guilty Wednesday to a misdemeanor charge of second-degree criminal mischief. The 12-person jury deliberated for less than an hour before finding Rechonie not guilty, wrapping up a two-day trial before Circuit Judge Bill Purdy, said Purdy's assistant, Margaret Kilroy.
