The Black Tornado broke up its No. 1 and undefeated doubles team of Nick Millan and Mateo Mengis and used the players in singles against visiting Grants Pass at Varsity Courts. Millan and Mengis, along with No. 1 singles player Tyler Wilson, posted victories, but Grants Pass swept all four doubles matches to win the SOC confrontation, 5-3. "It was just a little change-up for them," North Medford coach Larry Fields said. "We decided to let them have a little fun today. After the tension of playing the top teams, we thought it would be good to switch up for Grants Pass." Advertisement Wilson and the freshman Millan didn’t drop a game in the top two singles matches. Wilson, a state quarterfinalist last year, completed his love match with four consecutive aces. Mengis had a more competitive match against Tyler Pell at the No. 3 spot, but Mengis prevailed 6-3, 7-5. The loss dropped the Black Tornado to 1-2-1 on the season. "The only thing that is important in the dual meet matches is seeding," said Fields, "and our top guys already have their district seeding." SINGLES — Tyler Wilson, NM, d.
