Wilson bags regional title, in nationals PASCO, Wash. Mike Wilson of the Bulldog Boxing Club in Medford won the USA Pacific Northwest Regional title on Sunday. Wilson, ranked No. 1 in the nation at 201-plus pounds, had little trouble downing Iga Flapping Eagle of Caldwell, Idaho. The win avenged a loss to the fourth-rated Flapping Eagle in last years regionals. Wilson, a Crater High senior who turns 18 this week, now advances to the national tournament in mid-March at Colorado Springs, Colo. "Mike really dominated him (Flapping Eagle)," said Bulldog coach Joe Pedrojetti. "Everything is really coming together for Mike now. "Hes showing some maturity, and the big thing he does now is outbox people." Three other Bulldogs advanced to the finals but came up short. At 119, Salvador Regalado fell to junior national champion Francisco Urrabazzo of Caldwell, Idaho. At 156, Ricky Gallegos dropped a decision to top-ranked Walter Wright of Seattle. At 125, Lionel Leon fell to Jorge Hernandez of Anchorage, Alaska. The Bulldogs will take the same four boxers to compete in the Tacoma, Wash., Golden Gloves this weekend.   Mail Tribune Home | Ottaway Newspapers, Inc. | Dow Jones & Co., Inc. | Privacy | Contact Us Copyright 2001 Mail Tribune, Inc.
