Bonanza earns win despite Baker's heroics Jan 30, 2000 12:00 AM A A Bonanza earns win despite Baker's heroics — Boys prep basketball — CENTRAL POINT-- Good fortune was on Bonanza's side Saturday as the Antlers escaped with a boys basketball win at Scenic Middle School. — — Trailing by 11 in the third quarter of a seesaw battle, Bonanza rallied and barely held on for a 57-55 victory over Cascade Christian when the Challengers' Andy Baker's game-tying effort rimmed out. — — We had a really good look, Cascade Christian coach Brian Morse said. He probably makes that shot nine out of 10 times. — — Baker had put the Challengers in position seconds earlier by draining a 3-pointer to make the score 57-55. — Bonanza's Gerald Watkins was immediately fouled and missed the front end of a 1-and-1 to set the stage once again for Baker. — — With time dwindling down, Baker drove the baseline and pulled up for a 6-foot jumper that went in and out at the buzzer. — — Marlowe Olson scored 11 of his team-high 15 points in the fourth quarter to help rally the Antlers. — — Bonanza led by seven points in the first half before the Challengers made a 23-9 run in the second quarter to take a 33-26 lead at halftime. Baker scored 15 of his game-high 28 points in the period. — — Andy Baker was on fire that quarter, said Morse.
