OREGON COAST Police ID missing teen who fell into ocean at Cape Kiwanda; video of rescue effort Comment By The Associated Press MailTribune.com By The Associated Press Posted Feb. 2, 2016 at 4:51 PM By The Associated Press Posted Feb. 2, 2016 at 4:51 PM » Social News PORTLAND — Oregon State Police identified a girl who has been missing since falling into the Pacific Ocean as 17-year-old Megan Owens. Lt. Steve Mitchell says the girl from Marysville, Washington, was one of four youths climbing Monday at Cape Kiwanda in Tillamook County. She fell off rocks into an area known as the Punch Bowl. The Coast Guard sent helicopter crews, boat crews and rescue swimmers to search for the teenager, to no avail. As seas got rougher, two local fire and rescue workers who were searching on their own watercraft fell into the water. One of the helicopter crews hoisted them out. One searcher was taken to Lincoln City for treatment and the other was returned to the beach. Mitchell says the Tillamook County Sheriff's Office will continue the search. Oregon State Police released this video from a body camera worn by a trooper. The date and time stamp hasn't been set and is incorrect.
