Once that need is filled, donations may be distributed to others in need. The dream of stability and happiness is still alive for this mother of four children. A victim of mental and sexual abuse, the woman turned to drugs and unhealthy relationships. As addiction consumed the woman’s life, her youngest child often was left without diapers and formula in the hands of a caregiver, prompting child-welfare workers to intervene. The mother, 29, has since complied with all of her caseworkers’ instructions, taking parenting classes and attending groups for addiction and domestic-violence recovery. Striving to be a better parent, she wishes for a bit of comfort in her Medford home and the joy of a few holiday gifts for her kids. New towels, dishes, dish towels and kitchen utensils are among the mother’s desires. Board games, art supplies and books would promote more family togetherness. The 13-year-old girl does well in school but often hurries home to help care for her brothers. Imaginative and artistic, she wishes for a journal and adult-level coloring books. She wears small shirts, size 2 pants and size 4 shoes. The oldest boy, 10, loves Legos and building toys, as well as music. He would appreciate music books, a keyboard and guitar strap for his guitar. He wears size 10 clothing and size 3 shoes. The middle boy, 8, would love Legos, too. Outgoing, he also enjoys playing outdoors and would enjoy a soccer ball or basketball. He wears size 8 clothing and size 2 shoes. The 2-year-old boy tries to keep up with his brothers despite some developmental delays. He would benefit from some age-appropriate learning toys, including large-sized blocks. He wears size 2T clothing and shoes in size 7-7½. The entire family would get a boost from gift certificates for gas and treats, such as movies, ice cream or pizza. A gift certificate for a manicure/pedicure would delight the mother, who has never had either. To help, call Deborah King at CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Jackson County, 541-734-2272.
