The donation will be doubled to $600,000 through a state matching grant. “AllCare Health believes we must be leaders in addressing the current health care workforce shortage,” said Doug Flow, CEO of AllCare Health, in a press release. AllCare Health, formerly known as Mid Rogue Independent Physicians Association, is a physician-led coordinated care organization providing medical services in Jackson, Josephine, Curry and Douglas counties. The $300,000 gift to RCC will be matched dollar for dollar as part of an $8 million matching grant from the state of Oregon. The funds will go toward an expansion of the school's health occupations programs and new construction or improvements to classroom and laboratory space and equipment. RCC has said it hopes to build a new facility in Jackson County to house the health occupations program, which would allow an expansion of the number of students admitted to the program. RCC has focused efforts on the health field amid estimates of major shortfalls in the number of health care workers needed locally, in the state and nationally. "There is a great and growing need for health care workers in Southern Oregon," Peter Angstadt, president of RCC, said in the release. "We are on a mission to get local people trained for those jobs, and we thank AllCare for joining in this mission with such generous support." Judy Basker, director of the RCC Foundation agreed, saying in the release, "There are few greater needs in the Rogue Valley than for jobs, especially in the health care field. If we are able to find donations to match the full $8 million being offered by the state of Oregon, it's a win-win for the entire community." To date, the RCC Foundation has raised more than $2 million toward the matching grant. For more information, call the RCC Foundation at 541-956-7327 or email [email protected].
