Carpet will stay in temple I am very excited about the completion of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Temple in Central Point and look forward to the public tour before it is open. I heard a rumor that after the public tour, they tear out the carpet and put in new carpet. Is this true? -- Karl G., Central Point It's a common question, says Ed Hanson, president of the Central Point Stake, and no, it's not true. Once a temple is built, a several-day open house is held for the public. Because church leaders expect 30,000 people to attend, visitors will be asked to don paper surgical booties to protect the new carpets. Once the tour is over, two ceremonies will be held -- an observance of the laying of the cornerstone and a dedication service -- during which all nine stakes in the district will have a chance to participate in the temple dedication. Afterwards the temple is open only to worthy members, or those who have been recommended by their bishop. "We encourage the public to attend the open house," Hanson says.
