ODOT designates two new expressways Two sections of Highways 62 and 199 have been designated as "expressways" by the Oregon Transportation Commission in May. On Highway 62, the section designated was a 4.4-mile segment from north of Delta Waters Road in Medford to White City. On Highway 199, a 6.5-mile segment from the Grants Pass "South Y" intersection to Applegate Creek Bridge in Murphy was designated. According to Mike Baker of the Oregon Department of Transportation, designating the high-speed, high-volume stretches of these two highways as expressways allows for eventual upgrades. While it's not expected to have any immediate impact, Baker said he hopes that the designation will make future funding available for projects to improve traffic flow. Besides high speeds and high volume, on expressways private access and traffic signals are discouraged. Uncrossable medians, tight controls on public road connections, and parking prohibitions are encouraged.
