Seltzer leads Ashland past KU ASHLAND Hanna Seltzer was feeling it Friday night. The Ashland senior point guard exploded for a career-high 31 points as the Grizzlies locked up third place in Southern Oregon Conference girls basketball with a 78-43 victory over Klamath Union. Seltzer connected on 10 field goals in 15 attempts. She also contributed six rebounds, five assists and three steals. "They doubled down on Jackie (Woods) and that opened it up for Hanna, and she hit her shots," Ashland coach Heather Roberts said. "She also created opportunities by driving to the basket. When she saw she had an open lane, she took it." Ashland (15-8, 8-5 SOC) came out strong, outscoring the Pelicans 19-5 in the first quarter. By halftime, the Grizzlies had built a 39-15 lead. "We played our best half-court defense in a long time," said Roberts. "Our defense fed our offense. We were pushing the ball up and we had some layins. We ran our offense real well." Jessica Bullen provided the Grizzlies with a big defensive effort against Klamaths Sam Gilbert, who scored 12 points. "We think Sam (Gilbert) is their best player," said Roberts. "Jessica did a nice job staying between her and the basket. She (Bullen) just accepted the challenge." "Its coming down to the end of the season, and hopefully we can build on this," said Roberts. "We have a tough road ahead."
