The National Weather Service shared several views from Oregon Department of Transportation road cameras Friday morning that showed snow dustings at the Dead Indian Memorial Road summit and on sections of Highway 140. Mount Ashland also received a bit of white stuff. Snow levels are currently hovering around 5,000 feet. "We've become accustomed to the warm spring, early summer that we've had," said meteorologist Tom Wright. "This is actually not really abnormal, it just seems like it." The main part of the trough that brought the recent spell of cool weather to the area is expected to move off by Saturday, though a similar system is forecast to replace it, Wright said. Showers and high temperatures no higher than the mid-70s are expected through Wednesday of next week, and possibly past that. "This stuff might hang around a little longer than we've been thinking," Wright said. Weather officials added there isn't much concern about snow accumulating on area passes, however. "I don't think there'll be big impacts in the passes, because the road temperatures are staying fairly warm," Wright said. More significant snowfall is expected farther east and to the south in Lake, Modoc and Siskiyou counties, with up to 8 inches possible in some areas. "All of those locations are probably getting pretty good snow," Wright said. Reach reporter Ryan Pfeil at 541-776-4468 or [email protected]. Follow him at www.twitter.com/ryanpfeil .
