PREP SOCCER Graham, Rollins boost Ashland to win Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Oct. 4, 2015 at 2:00 AM Posted Oct. 4, 2015 at 2:00 AM » Social News EUGENE — Ashland senior Stenley Graham and junior Bryce Rollins showed off a perfect partnership Saturday in leading the Grizzlies’ boys soccer team to a 6-0 romp at North Eugene to open Midwestern League play. Graham and Rollins had a direct hand in five goals as Ashland (5-2-1, 1-0 MWL) secured the shutout, with Graham scoring twice and earning an assist on all three goals by Rollins. The duo connected 23 seconds into the match when Rollins sent a left-footed cross into the box and Graham converted a header. In the 28th minute, Graham scored off an assist by Jahnoi Hall. After that, the Graham to Rollins show kicked into high gear as they produced goals in the 35th, 38th and 52nd minutes. Leo Duetz capped the scoring with a penalty kick in the 66th minute, and Ferrucio Lemley earned the shutout in goal. SPRINGFIELD 3, EAGLE POINT 0: At Springfield, Miguel Lopez scored twice for Springfield during Midwestern League play. Midfielders Sebastian Tovar and Kevin Van Dyke submitted strong performances for the Eagles (5-3, 0-1 MWL), who were scoreless with the Millers at halftime. CASCADE CHRISTIAN 8, ILLINOIS VALLEY 0: Ben McDonald scored a hat trick and Travis Cave added two goals as Cascade Christian cruised to the District 5 victory at U.S. Cellular. Kallen Rechberg scored on a penalty kick, Ethan Hoffman connected for an unassisted goal and Ryan Vidlak scored off an assist by Hoffman to round out the scoring by the Challengers (6-2, 6-1 Dist. 5). Jesse Fretz had two assists and Mitesh Joseph registered the shutout in goal versus Illinois Valley (1-6, 0-6). ST. MARY'S 10, PACIFIC/BANDON 1: At Port Orford, Hunter Rothfus had a hat trick and Weston Grant one goal and two assists for St. Mary's during District 5 play. Alec Robertson, Jeremy Wu, Lucas Fry, Ryan Trask, Max Lewis and Preston Jernigan also scored for the Crusaders, who led 6-0 at halftime. St. Mary's (8-2, 7-0 Dist. 5) has won eight straight. LAKEVIEW 6, ROGUE RIVER 1: At Lakeview, Gavin Decker scored in the 42nd minute for Rogue River during District 5 play. All six goals by Lakeview (4-2, 4-2 Dist. 5) came the in the first 15 minutes against the Chieftains (2-6, 1-6). Girls EAGLE POINT 0, SPRINGFIELD 0: At Eagle Point, Audrey Jordan registered the shutout in goal for Eagle Point as it played to a scoreless draw in the Midwestern League opener. Senior defender Krystal Van Dyke helped solidify the defensive effort for the Eagles (2-3-4, 0-0-1), while sophomore Jessica Wolf applied pressure to Springfield (0-6-2, 0-1-1) with a few breakaway opportunities. ST. MARY’S 8, ILLINOIS VALLEY 0: MaryBeth Barnum had a hat trick and Sara Klott recorded three assists and one goal for St. Mary’s during District 5 action at U.S. Cellular. Meghan Michels scored twice for the Crusaders (8-2-1, 4-0 Dist. 5), who led 5-0 at halftime. Adrien Birmingham and Emily Elmore also netted goals and Ellie Hough and Anna Peterson made assists. CASCADE CHRISTIAN 4, ROGUE RIVER 0: Cascade Christian’s Emily Stephens scored three goals and fellow freshman Audrey Quast earned the shutout in goal — with an assist by Baylee Plankenhorn — in the District 5 match at U.S. Cellular. Stephens and Makenzie Hickman each intercepted passes and scored on one-on-one attacks against Rogue River (4-4, 2-2 Dist. 5) to give Cascade Christian (6-5, 3-1) a 2-0 halftime lead. Stephens scored in the 19th minute, Hickman in the 33rd. Stephens tacked on a solo run for a goal in the 53rd and hit a crisp 30-yard direct kick to net the final tally in the 62nd. Quast stopped a couple breakaways but got a key extra effort from Plankenhorn, who flew in on a ball that got under a challenging Quast and slid to knock the ball away inches from the goal line.
