The crash happened about 10 a.m. Tuesday at mile 45.7, between Valley of the Rogue State Park and Rogue River, a police report said. Rita R. Pratt, 49, of Rogue River, was stopped or traveling very slowly on the freeway when she was hit from behind by Jason S. Frazier, 31, of Grants Pass, Sgt. Brian Powers said in a press release. Pratt wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the Nissan pickup truck she was driving. Emergency responders declared her dead at the scene, Powers said. A Mercy Flights ambulance took Frazier to Rogue Valley Medical Center. He was listed in fair condition Wednesday evening, hospital officials said. Rogue River Rural Fire District, Jackson County sheriff’s deputies and the Oregon Department of Transportation also went to the crash, Powers said. No citations have been issued, but the accident remains under investigation.
