Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend December 1, 2005 Deputy’s patrol car hits woman using crosswalk A woman was hospitalized Wednesday night after she was struck by a Jackson County sheriff’s department patrol car in Phoenix. Few details were available late Wednesday, according to Oregon State Police investigators. The woman, who had just made a purchase at the Dutch Bros. Coffee drive-up, was crossing a crosswalk along Fern Valley Road near Interstate 5’s exit 24 when the eastbound deputy made a turn onto a road leading to the nearby shopping center and struck the woman, OSP trooper Stephanie Bigman said. The woman was transported by ambulance to Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford. The extent of her injuries was unknown, Bigman said. Jackson County Sheriff Mike Winters chose to call in OSP for the investigation, citing a conflict of interest. Bigman said that she is unsure if the deputy will be put on administrative leave following the incident. Advertisement Harsh weather conditions made it difficult to investigate the scene, Bigman said. "Anytime you have to deal with rain or snow at a scene there’s usually no evidence," Bigman said. It is not known if weather played a role in the accident. The names of the deputy and the woman were withheld until the completion of the investigation, officials said.
