Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Advertisement Email Story to a Friend March 5, 2006 SinceWEAsked: South Dakota’s abortion ban South Dakota lawmakers proposed a strict ban on abortions. We asked: "What do you think of South Dakota’s move to ban all abortions except those necessary to save a woman’s life?" Advertisement After you read through the answers from our Web readers, check out our new question, which pertains to a proposal for two 10-story office buildings in downtown Medford for Lithia Motors’ corporate headquarters. The problem that needs addressing is "why are these women having abortions?" Before change can occur to support pro-life opinion underlying issues must be addressed! — Tabitha, Medford Well, what if it'd been you? This world would not be as good a place without you. Or me! I'm glad we weren't aborted. — Patti I., Medford Each state should have their own say on the law. This country should be majority rule, not the minority. — Valerie S., Eagle Point I am a firm believer in allowing a woman to do what she wishes with her body. Why not be able to get an abortion in cases like rape or incest? Get real here South Dakota. — Richard T., Grants Pass South Dakota or bust! — Lisa M., Medford Senescent Christians once again trying to force their skewed perspective of morality down the throats of a helpless generation. — Ehren, Rogue River ABSURD!! Boycott South Dakota! — BJ Lewis, Eagle Point One person's beliefs should not become law impacting others whose beliefs may differ. If you don't want an abortion, don't have one. — Chuck W., Brookings It's wrong. I don't believe in abortion for myself, but every woman should have the right to make the decision for herself. After all, she is the one who has to live with that decision. — Jeanette R., White City To murder is morally and spiritually wrong. To save a life is a noble and worthwhile deed. This ban would allow more to live than to die. — Shell B., Central Point An affront to women. A step backwards in history and progress. Making abortion illegal won't stop it, only education and open-mindedness can achieve that. — C. Elliott, Medford Not surprising considering recent Supreme Court appointments. Frightening, disturbing, insulting to women and wrong!— G. Putnam, Jacksonville I think our entire country would be better off if this was the law. Killing babies doesn't help us in anyway. — Leann E., Klamath Falls I think I am VERY glad to be living in Oregon and not South Dakota! — Janet O., Central Point It is outrageous that some religious organizations should try to impose their beliefs onto the general population. I especially grieve for rape or incest victims! — Kathleen H., Rogue River No government — local, state or federal — should be making laws on abortion. This is a choice for a woman and her physician only. — Sally B., Medford Feel anger and sorrow for residents of South Dakota, one more of their rights have been taken away. — Vicki, Central Point It's good. Doctors won't be expected to destroy a potential human. Sexual partners have to be responsible for their actions.Potential children won't be destroyed. — Judy G., Rogue River I would be opposed to any attempt to ban women's right to do with her body or fetus as she sees fit. — Bill F., Jacksonville Women must have the right to decide these issues for themselves. — Marilyn C., Jacksonville I think it is totally wrong. As a woman, I should have the choice that I feel is right for me, not have them tell me what I can and cannot do. — Sharon W., Gold Hill These people need to get a life and leave other peoples lives alone. Do some volunteer work, adopt some unwanted children, do foster care but let people make their own choices. — L. Rezendes, Gold Hill Thanks for a giant leap back. It always comes back to this: Who owns your body, you or the state? If you chose B, you're a slave. — Michael H., Cyberspace South Dakota's ban on abortion is wrong. Lawmakers have no right, no right at all to decide a woman's choice on a lifelong issue. — Karen R., Central Point It is ignorant, misguided, anti-women and -family planning to ban access to legal abortions. The victims will be the unplanned babies and the society at large.— Sylvia S., Medford Neanderthal!!!— Gery B., Medford I am outraged to have some faceless lawmakers deciding when and if I could have an abortion. I am 72 years old and I remember some of the "botched" abortions reported in private, when someone died. I am not in favor of abortion, but sometimes it is the best solution to a lifelong problem. I just think that it is outrageous to have men voting, picketing, and parading around carrying signs to outlaw abortions. I feel it is not their right. — Nan C., Medford This is just a ploy by Radical Fundamentalists to bring a case to the Supreme Court to make everyone believe as they do. — Kathi, Rogue River This week’s question The city of Medford and the Medford Urban Renewal Agency have agreed to explore funding options for a downtown development, including two 10-story office buildings that would bring Lithia Motors’ corporate offices into the city core.
