Kanner will return as Phoenix interim city manager Friday Jan 19, 2018 at 12:34 PM Jan 19, 2018 at 12:34 PM PHOENIX — Dave Kanner will have a second run as interim city manager following the resignation of Eric Swanson, which will become effective Feb. 7. Swanson, who was hired in September, announced his resignation last week to enter the private sector. The City Council approved offering Kanner the position when it met Tuesday, and Kanner indicated he would begin work on Feb. 8, Mayor Chris Luz said. Kanner, former city administrator in Ashland, served as interim manager for Phoenix March through September 2017. Luz said the search for a permanent city manager should begin shortly after Kanner arrives, as he was involved in the process that led to Swanson’s hiring.
