Police offer reward for help catching a dangerous driver By SARAH LEMON Police were offering a reward Thursday for information leading to the arrest of a man wanted for eluding police and suspected of other crimes. Scott Edward Perry, 37, is considered to be an immediate danger to the community because of his long history of trying to outrun officers while driving, said police. "If he's in another car, he'll most likely end up seriously injuring somebody," said Medford police Sgt. Roy Skinner. Medford police said they have probable cause to arrest Perry for felony hit-and-run stemming from a Nov. 1 traffic crash. He allegedly ignored a stop sign while driving at the intersection of Pennsylvania Street and Summit Avenue and his car was struck by another vehicle. Perry's car then reportedly ran over a fire hydrant and crashed into the side of a house before he ran from the scene and tried to steal a bicycle, police said. Perry also is wanted by Oregon State Police and Jackson County Sheriff's Office on eluding charges stemming from two separate cases in December. He allegedly broke into a vehicle on Dec. 12 and fled the scene, driving recklessly, after deputies arrived. State police almost apprehended him later that month, but he broke away from a trooper and fled across Interstate 5, said Medford police Detective Bill Ford. "He's Medford's 'most wanted' right now," Ford said. There also is a warrant for Perry's arrest, charging him with violating parole conditions. Police said Perry may be connected to a rash of vehicle thefts in the Medford area in November and December. Police said he may be driving a red 1988 Pontiac LeMans - with Oregon license plate PSK-508 - that was stolen from Blackwell Road on Monday. Perry was convicted of unauthorized use of a vehicle in 2000. He also has appeared in Jackson County Circuit Court on numerous burglary, theft and criminal mischief charges dating from 1988. A reward of up to $1,000 is available for information leading to Perry's arrest. Any information can be directed to Detective Ford at 774-2236 or the Medford Police Department at 770-4783. Perry is described as 6-foot-1, 220 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. A color photo is available on the Police Department's Web site, www.ci.medford.or.us.
