Certificates issued on behalf of Adbill through the National Certification Career Association should be considered null and void, said Abdill's owner, whose legal name is Ki. Abdill officials say an ex-instructor, whom they declined to name, misrepresented an affiliation with the career college and administered testing for certification, even after employment ended, and that testing was administered at the instructor's home, which violates national testing security standards. Abdill Career College officials, who issued a statement on their Facebook page, said the school discovered the issue in May, when it was contacted by the NCCA, and is cooperating with an investigation. Ki said the school was attempting to inform local businesses about the fraudulent testing. It also hoped to reach former students who had been told the certifications were valid to make alternative arrangements for certification. Ki said that Abdill primarily uses the National Healthcareer Association for testing its students and that the school was not currently affiliated with the National Certification Career Association. Changes last fall to certain medical certifications called for national certification as a requirement prior to employment. Prior to the former instructor leaving the school, she signed up as a representative and proctor with the NCCA for Abdill, Ki said. Ki said some students were awarded certifications for programs they had not completed or, in some cases, had never signed up for. "The instructor who was involved has been gone since March and we were told she held one of the exams at her home a week after she was no longer employed at the school," Ki said. "The big thing is that this instructor failed all those students involved. Some of them became nationally certified medical assistants and they hadn't even completed their programs and then they went on to quit school because they already had their certifications." Central Point resident Sammy Blommel, who became certified as a clinical medical assistant in June through Abdill under the National Healthcareer Association, voiced concern that students could become certified through illegal channels. Blommel said she felt the students who sought the alternate certification were trying to avoid complying with the school's standards. Blommel recalled talking to a fellow student who had been certified earlier than expected. "I had noticed she posted that she was now nationally certified, so I congratulated her and she shushed me and told me not to talk about it," Blommel said. "It turned out a bunch of them had gone to the instructor's house and she had proctored it before she quit, so they all went over there and got certified and some of them even dropped out before they finished because they already had certificates," Blommel said. "It was a lot of students who were bad-talking the school because they didn't want to follow the rules. What's sad is that 90 percent of them have had really good paying jobs because of the school." Businesses who have hired former students of Abdill whose certificates were issued by the NCCA should consider those certificates invalid and contact Abdill immediately at 541-779-8384.
