Raiders roll over Central Washington wrestlers ASHLAND -- The third-ranked Southern Oregon University wrestling team toppled Central Washington 36-6 with eight wins Saturday night. The victory improved the Raiders to 4-3 overall against all NCAA teams this year. Chris Bettineski (141 pounds) nabbed the meet-opening match with a 12-10 decision despite an old shoulder injury that started to bother him in the first period. "It was a gutsy performance by Chris because he was obviously in a lot of pain at the end" Coach Mike Ritchey said. "He is still learning how to keep himself out of trouble with that injury." Winning decisions from Jesse Mindlin (149) and Matt Armstrong created a 9-3 early Raider lead. Jamie Haddon secured a single match victory with a pin at the end of the second period over Jeremy Brummett at 197 pounds. Ryan Escobar mad his first-ever appearance at 133 pounds with a pin over Nick Rodriquez in 6:30. Escobar usually wrestles at 125 pounds but chose to move up after Central Washington forfeited at the 125 position. The win over Central Washington completed back-to-back victories for the Raiders, who nabbed a 30-15 defeat over Portland State on Friday night. "Those were two duals we really needed to win," Ritchey said. "I think we're starting to get on the roll we look for at the end of the season." Chris Bettineski (SO) dec.
