2 fatal crashes claim 3 lives By Mail Tribune staff Updated: Dec 20, 2022 02:21 PM A A Three motorists died, and one was hospitalized in a pair of weekend crashes in Jackson and Josephine counties. Oregon State Police responded at 4 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16, to milepost 11 on Highway 234 near Sams Valley, where a Nissan Frontier had struck an embankment, according to a news release from Oregon State Police. James Robertson, 81 of Central Point, was driving the Nissan westbound near Table Rock Road when, for unknown reasons, he drifted onto the highway’s shoulder. Medical personnel pronounced Robertson dead at the scene, according to OSP. OSP responded at 2:25 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 199 about five miles west of Grants Pass involving a Toyota Prius and a Kia Sedona. Karlee Ann Hawley, 22, of Grants Pass, was driving the Prius northbound in the southbound lane of Highway 199 when she collided with the southbound Sedona driven by Kai He, 51, of Kerby. Both Hawley and He were pronounced deceased. The Sedona’s passenger, Yuhao Li, 26, also of Kerby, was transported to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, the release stated. Li’s condition was not immediately available.
