Will the city be providing a new disc golf course any time soon in the future? — Mary H., Medford We've got some good news and bad news for you, Mary. The good news is the Medford Parks and Recreation Commission has picked Chrissy Park as the location for the new course, off Cherry Lane in Medford. "It's actually going to be a fabulous spot," said park planner Pete Young. "It's got lots of room and some fantastic views." As you probably know, city officials removed the original Holmes Park course in 2008 after receiving complaints about course users from nearby neighbors. These complaints included foul language, public drinking, outdoor urination and loud music. City parks officials said they will develop a code of conduct to reduce similar incidents at the new location. They planned to relocate the course to nearby Bear Creek Park initially, but scrapped it because of the parking and street upgrades that would have been required to get it built. After parks officials conducted a feasibility study for the park's best location, they settled on Chrissy Park. The bad news about this new development is it's going to take some time to develop the course, as it's on county land. Jackson County and Medford need to work out a comprehensive plan to allow the city to increase their boundary onto that land so they can develop the park. "We're in a holding pattern with a development of that property until we can bring it into the city," Young said. "There are many, many steps." Parks officials also need to coordinate with the Medford Water Commission, which has purchased an acre on-site to build a reservoir. All told, it will probably take about two years to get all the details hammered out. "But ultimately we're going to have a fabulous disc golf course out there," Young said.
