Dorland Arlene Offenbacher Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Jun. 19, 2015 at 2:00 AM Posted Jun. 19, 2015 at 2:00 AM » Social News Dorland Arlene Offenbacher Dorland Arlene Offenbacher was born September 26, 1925 in Medford, Oregon to Paul A. and Mary M. (Hackert) Godward. Having lived a full life, Dorland died of natural causes at home at Pioneer Village, Jacksonville June 12, 2015. She grew up in Jacksonville, Oregon with a large extended family in Southern Oregon. Dorland graduated from Jacksonville High School and married Charles L. Offenbacher of Ruch in 1944. After Charlie’s Navy service, they settled in Jacksonville where they raised two children. Charlie served thirty years with the Oregon State Police and Dorland was an astute manager, homemaker, accomplished cook and gardener, and community volunteer. She worked as an executive secretary in the orchard industry, managed the office at Klocker Printery, briefly worked in retail, and was office manager for an engineering firm. She was an active member of the American Business Women’s Association, a member of the last Jacksonville School Board, a long-time member of the Britt Scholarship Committee, and a member of the Jacksonville Presbyterian Church. With Charlie’s death in 1986, she took up Bridge, travel with friends and grandchildren, and the pursuit of Godward genealogy with her cousin. She was happiest at the card table, in her garden, and sharing a meal with friends. She is survived by her son, Curtis F. Offenbacher and daughter-in-law, Virginia Sproul of Springfield, Oregon; daughter, Gayle Y. Lewis and son-in-law, James W. Lewis of Jacksonville; granddaughter, Claire Godward Lewis of Portland, Oregon; and grandson, Charles D. Offenbacher of Springfield, Oregon. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of the Animal Shelter (FOTAS), PO Box 92, Ashland, Oregon 97520 or The Jacksonville Woodlands Association (JWA), PO Box 1210, Jacksonville, Oregon 97530.
