John Martin Roos, 62, now faces 14 federal charges, according to an indictment from the U.S. District Court in Medford. The four new charges allege that Roos had pipe bombs in his home, located in the 1400 block of Poplar Drive, when he was arrested by federal authorities April 28. Roos was to be arraigned on the new charges at 1:30 p.m. today at the James A. Redden Federal Courthouse in downtown Medford. The devices are described as metal pipe with lengths that ranged from 3 1/2 to 6 inches, with diameters ranging from 3/4-inch to 1 1/4 inches, according to the new indictment, filed by federal prosecutors Aug. 4. They had fishing weights, fishing hooks and Phillips-head screws attached and contained "an ammunition propellant known as Pyrodex." Roos has been in the Jackson County Jail without bail since April 28 on charges he threatened to kill the president and federal agents in online posts. The charges allege Roos posted threats on Twitter in mid-March under the handle @indnjohnpatriot and on Facebook. "No he is not a good peson (sic), he is a low-life muslim goat-----, who will be killed as you will be and I will kill Obamna (sic) personally," a March 16 Tweet reads. Additional Tweeted threats against President Obama allegedly were made on March 19, March 25 and March 26, the indictment states. "Yeah this is the only way to deal with muslim animals theyall (sic) need shot in the head. I'll start by shooting Obama the traitor in the face," a March 26 Tweet reads. Roos allegedly also wrote threats against FBI agents as early as Jan. 31. "FBI acts like they are something to be feared after ambushing American patriots in Oregon," a January Facebook post reads. "They are pussies. We will snipe them with hunting rifles everywhere." Court documents state that Roos has claimed the postings were a means by which he "blows off steam" and that he would never follow through with the threats. His next court date was not immediately available. Reach reporter Ryan Pfeil at 541-776-4468 or [email protected]. Follow him at www.twitter.com/ryanpfeil .
