The store on Biddle Road remained open during the incident, with shoppers filing past the crime scene as injured employees were loaded into Mercy Flights ambulances. (Mail Tribune / Bob Pennell) Market melee leads to arrests Suspects scuffle with employees after alleged robbery attempt; one woman dragged by SUV By chris conrad Mail Tribune Police arrested three California men Friday afternoon after they allegedly assaulted three people outside the Food-4-Less on Biddle Road. According to Medford police, the suspects had tried to steal money from cash registers inside the store when they were approached by three employees. Two employees were hospitalized after a scuffle with the men outside the store. Teresa Marie Burns, 38, a loss-prevention employee, suffered bite wounds to her hand and an eye injury, said Medford police Lt. Tim George. Witnesses reported seeing Burns reach into the getaway car in an attempt to shut off the engine. Advertisement "It appears (she) was dragged about 15 feet through the parking lot by the suspects' sports utility vehicle," George said, adding it appears one of the suspects bit her during the fracas. Jeremiah Pickrell, 31, a manager at the store, tried to intervene and was punched in the face, George said. He sustained a broken orbital bone, a broken nose and a shoulder injury. The Food-4-Less remained open for business following the melee. Shoppers filed past the crime scene as the employees were loaded into Mercy Flights ambulances. Many seemed unaware of what was happening while they were shopping in the store. The suspects fled in a white Chevy Tahoe and were arrested by Medford police soon after near Highway 62 and Vilas Road. They were assisted by Central Point police and Jackson County sheriff's deputies. Arrested were Clifford Tyrone Bell, 42, and his son, Pedro Tyrone Bell, 23, both of Livermore, Calif.; and Christopher Harris, 25, of Richmond, Calif. Charges are pending while the investigation continues. They were lodged in the Jackson County Jail on charges of second-degree robbery and second-degree assault. Bail for each was set at $2 million. Both the robbery and assault charge carry mandatory minimum prison sentences of 5 years and 10 months. Investigators think the men are responsible for a similar robbery earlier Friday at a Raley's Supermarket in Yreka, Calif., George said. "The description of the suspects and their vehicle match that of what occurred in Yreka," George added. Cash from the Yreka heist was found in the Tahoe, according to George.
