Todd Erick Gurthet, 36, who lives on Hummingbird Court in Eagle Point, faces charges of initiating a false report, improper use of an emergency reporting system, possession of methamphetamine and second-degree disorderly conduct. He pleaded not guilty to the charges this morning in Jackson County Circuit Court. According to Medford police, Gurthet called 911 Aug. 5 to report a murder in progress at the Safeway grocery store on Highway 62 near Delta Waters Road. After police arrived, they saw him walking in traffic and he refused to obey commands. He was arrested without force, and police allegedly found a pipe with methamphetamine, according to an affidavit. Gurthet allegedly said he wanted to be arrested and intentionally made the false 911 report to check police arrival times, the affidavit said. In 2013, Gurthet was found guilty of improper use of an emergency reporting system after he went into a Wells Fargo bank in White City, called 911 and said the bank was being robbed. Bank tellers who heard him talking about the supposed robbery grew alarmed, according to court documents. Gurthet told police he made the call because he wanted to be arrested and taken to jail, according to court documents.
