LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Letters to the Editor, June 21 Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Jun. 21, 2016 at 12:01 AM Posted Jun. 21, 2016 at 12:01 AM » Social News Adapt to wolves The news that a gray wolf known as OR-33 has been tracked to the Grizzly Peak area is promising progress in the return of wolves to Southern Oregon. It is very sad that we know of this because of the loss of three goats on a nearby farm, but it is also an important reminder that as wolves return we need to also adapt to this new wildlife landscape. Luckily, non-lethal deterrence methods will be encouraged by ODFW in the wake of the recent livestock deaths. There are a variety of deterrence methods that have been trialed by ranchers successfully in wolf habitat around the country. We can co-exist with wolves, and their return heralds a new level of adaptability, biodiversity and strength in Southern Oregon's ecosystems. On July 16, Coyote Trails and KS Wild are running a wolf tracking workshop where you can also learn more about wolves in Southern Oregon — this is a great time to be learning more! Lilia Letsch Ashland Save the water I have heard the news of potential lead in our water pipes on radio news, television stations and in writing with your article on June 14. Not once, after recommending that consumers run their water for 30 seconds to two minutes down the drain, has a reporter ever thought to remind readers that they should save this water in an old milk carton or bowl, to use to water plants in the yard or house. I have not heard that it is unsafe to do this. So why not mention this and tell people that this would be a good way to use the water instead of pouring it down the drain? This could save hundreds of thousands of gallons every day if this was done. Let's all do this. Don and Mary Heath Medford Make GOP great again We make America great by putting its principles into practice. As a result, people of all races and religions are able to enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness here in relative peace. God knows we have plenty of room for improvement, but does anybody seriously believe that a vulgar buffoon who mocks women, minorities and the disabled will make us greater? By rallying behind Trump instead of uniting against him, the Republican Party abandoned all pretense of having values or principles. Republicans spent the last eight years vilifying our president and refusing to work with him. As if to eliminate any doubt about whether racism was involved, they nominated the biggest bigot to run for president since George Wallace. The very thought of such an ignorant demagogue becoming birther in chief has our allies cringing and our enemies laughing. In 2008, Rush Limbaugh became the face of the GOP and his hatemongering set its tone. At the time I thought it can’t get any uglier than this, but I was wrong. If Republicans hope to ever make the GOP great again, they need to dump Trump.
