Stephen Allen Keough, 49, has been charged with murder in the death of 51-year-old Arthur Maehl. Keough was arrested Saturday morning at the home he shared with Maehl on Whispering Pines Lane. Keough told detectives that he had planned to turn himself in to authorities today. Keough told police that he and Maehl had been arguing Friday evening. The disagreement escalated into a physical fight, and Keough stabbed Maehl several times with a knife, investigators said. Detectives found and seized the weapon. Maehl was pronounced dead at the scene. The Josephine County Sheriff’s Department was notified at 10 a.m. Saturday that a homicide had taken place at the residence, located about five miles southeast of the city. The sheriff’s department’s major crime unit is investigating. Keough remained in the Josephine County Jail Sunday without bail.
