The piece, a stylized representation of a Pacific fisher, was funded largely by a grant from the Haines and Friends Fund, and has been on display at the Ashland Public Library since April. The work is a concrete silhouette of a Pacific fisher inlaid with ceramic tile and standing on a concrete plinth inset with colorful ceramic oak leaves. Jacksonville artist Jeremy Criswell created the sculpture of the elusive, forest-dwelling member of the weasel family last winter and unveiled it at the Ashland Earth Day celebration in the spring. Criswell was on hand to answer questions about the piece. Cider and cookies in the shape of Pacific fishers were served. Alec Dickinson is an Ashland freelance writer.
