Robert flew B-17s and B-29s during World War II and continued to fly for many more years after the war. Robert's wife of 71 years, Laura Jeanne Mullen, was at his side, along with family and friends who kept up the vigil at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center. Robert's passion for learning and his quest for higher education for his entire family was not only encouraged but made financially possible by "Grandpa Bob." His second career, after retiring from the school district was in land development in southern Oregon. Robert and Jeanne both loved to travel and they visited Europe, as well as every state in the nation. Robert also visited many other countries including Russia and Israel. He is survived by his beloved wife, Laura Jeanne; his daughters, Laura Schmid of Danville, Calif. and Janice Jackson of Medford, Ore.; his son, Robert James Mullen Jr. of Paradise, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Ryan Koontz, Kristen Wingate, Spence and Arielle Mullen, Natalie Jackson, Sutton Sevilla, and Tyler Jackson; and his great-grandchildren, Evan and Avery Koontz; Maya Wingate; Brandon, Vanessa, and Anthony Jackson; and Lola Jean Jackson. A celebration of Robert Mullen's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Hillcrest Mortuary Chapel, 2201 N. Phoenix Rd., Medford, Ore. Memorial contributions may be made to Asante Hospice, 541-608-3967.
