Like other Sprint customers in Jackson County, she went to the Biddle Road Sprint store and discovered that service had been interrupted from Medford to Eugene and over to Klamath Falls. Sprint representatives said a fiber optics line had been severed and there was no estimate when service would be restored. "It sucks," said Clark, who was trying to get in touch with her daughter Sunday afternoon as she was shopping with her father. "This is our way of life. This is how I communicate with my kids." Sprint representatives told Clark and other cell phone users that they could shift over to "roaming" to get a connection. But Clark said she didn't have the kind of plan that enabled her to use roaming without charge. No estimates were available as to how many customers were affected by the outage, although it appeared to affect all customers in Jackson County. Advertisement Medford resident Vanessa Decker said she first discovered her phone was on the fritz when she tried to call her grandfather Sunday morning to wish him happy birthday. She tried to use her husband's cell phone, but said, "Neither of us could call out." Decker said this was the first time that she has had a problem with her Sprint service. In Clark's case, a Sprint representative pushed a few keys on her phone and shifted her over to roaming so she could call out. Notices posted at the Sprint store on Biddle Road explained that the network would be out of service. At press time, there was no estimate when it would be restored. Despite the problem, sales representatives inside the store reported brisk sales on Christmas eve. They referred any questions about the problem to Sprint officials, who couldn't be reached Sunday.
