Cascade girls put clamps on Bonanza, 54-31 Cascade Christian's girls basketball team reached another of its goals Saturday against Bonanza as the Challengers kept the Antlers under 40 points in a 54-31 triumph at Grace Christian School. Cascade coach Loren King said his team set its top-level mark in the preseason and have held firm to their convictions in streaking to 16-1 on the season and 2-1 in Southern Cascade League action. "We're getting 10 kids out there playing their hearts out on defense and it makes all the difference in the world," King said. ``Our intensity on defense is really our key. The kids have worked real hard on that all season." Christine McCandless and Natalie Peck each had 14 points to pace Cascade, with Crystal Tait adding 10. Bonanza (0-2 SCL) focused its defense on Kelly Clarke in the first half, allowing McCandless to score 12 points in the first two quarters. Once the Antlers turned their attention to McCandless in the second half, Clarke tossed in all nine of her points. "It's nice to be able to strike from several spots," King said. "The girls are really unselfish. That's what allows us to do that." BONANZA (31) -- Young 6, Hitt 6, Earp 2, Shaw 1, Wiseman 2, Hess 4, Nieraeth 5, Manning 2, Hevern 3, McKay 0, Nelson 0.
