I'm a bit of a sports fan myself, but I'm not sure where he gets all his insider information. I watch the usual ESPN and network shows and read the papers, but he'll tell me "Bleacher Report said ..." What is Bleacher Report and is it really a good source? — Harvey R., Eagle Point We might be looking at a generational divide here, Harvey. Your son, like most people younger than 40, tend to get their new digitally on the Web or via texts. That's exactly the generation Bleacher Report was looking to capture when it was founded in 2007 by a group of Bay Area chums who saw the power of social media to spread breaking sports news. At first, traditional newspaper and broadcast outlets cast a disdainful eye toward the upstart that spattered the cyberverse with an ocean of paint, hoping something would stick. Despite a rough-go in the early years, Bleacher Report kept slogging away, enhancing its quality and reliability. Today, The Associated Press and other traditional media outlets routinely reference Bleacher Reports' posts. Between 2008 and 2011, Bleacher Report raised at about $40 million in venture capital funding, allowing it to attract a professional staff. Then in August 2012, Time Warner subsidiary Turner Broadcasting System paid $175 million to acquire Bleacher Report. Send questions to “Since You Asked,” Mail Tribune Newsroom, P.O.
