In fact, he never even left the building. Joseph Thomas Hilt, 31, pushed over a vending machine during a 30-minute wait in the jail lobby and was promptly re-arrested and booked back into jail on charges of first-degree criminal mischief and disorderly conduct, police reported. His bail is set at $20,000, jail records show. The Jackson County Sheriff's Department reported Hilt was originally arrested by Rogue River police on a warrant. He was released at 10:43 p.m. Thursday. Sheriff's department officials said he sat in the lobby for about a half hour before he pushed over the vending machine. The fall cracked the floor tiles, broke the machine's exterior lights and caused all the snack trays to slide forward and cause additional damage, officials said. The power cord was torn from the back. Hilt told deputies who approached him after the incident that he "wasn't feeling right in the head," according to a department news release. Medford police arrived on scene and arrested Hilt. Sheriff's department spokeswoman Andrea Carlson said the vending machine has since been repaired, but the cracked tiles remain.
