CRIME Surveillance camera shows burglar inside bike shop for 40 minutes as owners slept Comment By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune MailTribune.com By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Posted Apr. 6, 2015 at 10:56 AM Updated Apr 6, 2015 at 5:02 PM By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Posted Apr. 6, 2015 at 10:56 AM Updated Apr 6, 2015 at 5:02 PM » Social News A burglar prowled around inside a Medford bicycle and pool business for about 40 minutes Friday while store owners slept nearby. The owner's dogs finally woke up and chased the burglar, who fled with bike parts and cash in hand. Medford police reported the break-in happened between 2:14 and 2:54 a.m. Friday at Moore's Pool and Stan's Bike Shop, 722 Crater Lake Ave. Surveillance video installed after repeated burglary attempts over the last two months captured the man breaking into the business with a crowbar or some other kind of prying instrument. During his 40 minutes inside, the suspect — a white man wearing a light-colored baseball cap and jacket — crept around the store. He took money from a register, a Samsung tablet and an assortment of bicycle parts, including chains, pads and a crank set. Most of his steps are captured on video, investigators said. At one point, the man crouches and puts his ear against a partition separating the sleeping area from the showroom, apparently listening intently to make sure he had not disturbed anyone. "It is super creepy," Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau said of the footage. "He was well aware they were inside." Two dogs eventually noticed the man's presence and chased him off. The store owners had installed surveillance cameras following some attempted break-ins over the last several months, police said. "They decided to sleep at the business in light of this," Budreau said. About $1,000 worth of cash and property were taken, Budreau said.
