South Obenchain fire cause is unknown By Mail Tribune staff Oct 09, 2020 12:00 AM A A Do firefighters know how the South Obenchain fire started? — Via email The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to Oregon Department of Forestry spokeswoman Natalie Weber. The fire is 100% contained, and much of the work still being done within the firelines is devoted to repair work being undertaken by ODF and Bureau of Land Management fire crews. They’re tending to such needs as repairing fences and dug lines being folded back into the landscape. The South Obenchain fire, which ignited near Eagle Point Sept. 8, burned 32,671 acres and destroyed 33 homes and 56 other structures such as outbuildings.
