Investigators identified the woman as 39-year-old Michelle Dawn Fifield, of the 1200 block of West Main Street in Medford. As the investigation into her death continues, police still do not believe she was a victim of foul play. “There is nothing in this case to suggest foul play or suspicious circumstances, though the exact cause and manner of death are not being released pending further review by the medical examiner’s office,” a news release from Medford police Sgt. Geoff Kirkpatrick said. An autopsy has not yet been completed, and a toxicology report won't be available for some time, Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau said. Fifield was found just before 8 p.m. Saturday in a field near the intersection of Juanipero Way and Olympic Avenue. A Medford officer on patrol responded to the area after receiving several reports of an abandoned vehicle in the field. The officer found a 2002 Mistubishi Galant with no one inside, but several personal items, including a purse and a cellphone, were left behind, police said. The officer found Fifield’s body in some tall grass about 20 yards away from the car. A detective from Medford police responded to the scene after the body’s discovery, along with the Jackson County Sheriff Department’s deputy medical examiner.
