Ashland announces new park closures By Tidings staff Mar 24, 2020 04:45 PM A A Ashland Parks and Recreation is closing park facilities, playgrounds, sports courts and fields in accordance with the latest mandate by Gov. Kate Brown to help limit the spread of COVID-19. The move, announced through a press release Monday, was effective immediately. Restroom facilities along well-used trails will remain open, and portable bathrooms and hand-washing stations will stay put, but almost everything else will be off-limits. The long list of closures in Ashland includes all playgrounds throughout the Ashland park system; all basketball courts, tennis courts and pickleball courts; all sports fields, including the North Mountain Park baseball and softball fields and Hunter Park baseball field; Ashland dog park; Ashland skate park; Garfield Park volleyball court, basketball court and splash pad; Oak Knoll Golf Course; Daniel Meyer Memorial Pool; and any facility not previously mentioned at which “proper social distancing cannot be maintained.” There were a few exceptions.
