Big Al's tennis seeds advance ASHLAND -- The top seeds in most singles divisions advanced with byes on the first day of the Big Al's Tennis Tournament. But the seeds in the crowded men's 3.5 and 4.0 draws had a tougher go of it on Friday. Three 3.5 players exited the tournament ahead of schedule with second-round losses. Third-seeded Everett Riggle of Chico, Calif., fell to Rupert Asuncion of Stockton, Calif., 6-3, 6-4. Robert Klinger of Stockton battled back to dispatch fifth-seeded Canadian Tom Tidwell of Toronto, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2. George Wilson of Red Bluff, Calif., knocked off No. 6. Mike Sullivan of Eugene, 6-1, 6-2. In 4.0 play, two seeds fell in the first round: Jay Marchant of Chico ousted No. 4 Bob Hook of Bishop, Calif., 6-1, 6-2, and No. 5 Dan Graham of Ashland fell to Chico's Dave Hall, 6-2, 6-1.
