Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend June 22, 2005 White City teen pleads after aiding police case A White City teen who cooperated with police will serve a lighter sentence for numerous crimes committed during a March spree. Kenneth Charles King, 18, of White City pleaded guilty Tuesday in Jackson County Circuit Court to two counts of second-degree robbery. Circuit Court Judge Patricia Crain ordered him to spend three years in prison instead of the five years and 10 months usually required under Oregon’s Measure 11 sentencing law. King and two other men, 18-year-old Jacob Francis Grimm and 21-year-old Joseph Stinson, were indicted for the March 15 robbery of a Union 76 station at 460 S. Valley View Road, Ashland. Their faces wrapped in Ace bandages, the robbers pointed a shotgun at the lone attendant and took cash from the register, said David Orr, deputy district attorney for Jackson County. The previous day, 16-year-old Jacob Sather allegedly joined King in robbing a taxi driver in White City, Orr said. The fact that no one was injured in the robberies and King’s previously clean record allowed prosecutors to take the crime out of Measure 11 sentencing requirements, Orr said. Sather and Grimm face an Aug. 10 trial. Stinson pleaded guilty last month to the gas station robbery and also received a 36-month prison sentence. In addition, King pleaded no contest Tuesday to the March 22 stabbing of a 20-year-old White City man at that town’s skate park. The victim required surgery for his injuries. However, Crain — following attorneys’ recommendations — added no time to King’s sentence for the assault. A plea of no contest carries the same legal consequences as a guilty plea. Terry Wayne Kewley Jr., 17, of Medford is set to stand trial on Aug. 3 in that case.
