Henley freshman dominates second-place Illinois Valley CAVE JUNCTION -- Krystal Young already had a no-hitter and one-hitter to her credit this year. But Henley's talented freshman pitcher surpassed those performances Saturday with a perfect game in the nightcap during a key Skyline Conference doubleheader against Illinois Valley. Young's gem helped No. 2-ranked Henley fashion a sweep over the Cougars, 7-2 and 6-0. Skyline Conference first-place Henley (13-1, 10-0 Skyline) entered the doubleheader with a two-game lead over second-place Illinois Valley. "At this point in the season this was a huge doubleheader for both of us," Henley coach Steve Rooklidge said. "We played a lot better than we have been. I was thrilled to get a sweep over there." Young struck out four to raise her record to 6-1 on the season. "She had good velocity and just threw strikes," said Rooklidge. "We made the plays on defense." Lois Shoemaker's two-run homer in the third inning gave the Hornets a 3-0 lead. Ollie Herbert had three hits and one RBI, while Shoemaker and Rachel Scott added two hits each. In the opener, Mandy Hargrave blanked IV through six innings before the Cougars pushed across a pair of runs in the seventh. Hargrave struck out three, walked four and allowed one earned run. "She put us in a position to win by making them earn it," said Rooklidge.
