Scott, Laing lead local boarders North Medford�s Ryan Scott and Callie Laing were the top local boy and girl participants at the state high school snowboarding championships Friday and Saturday at Mount Hood Meadows. The competition consisted of two types of snowboarding � boardercross on Friday and slopestyle on Saturday. Boardercross has contestants going through a series of gates and obstacles while being timed. Slopestyle consists of scoring on jumps and tricks. Competitors get two runs in each event, with the top score counting. Scott finished third overall in boardercross with a time of 36.28 seconds and fourth in the slopestyle event with 13.4 points. Ben Connors of Summit Christian of Hood River won the individual boardercross with a time of 34.71, and Corey Noble of Barlow in Gresham was victorious in slopestyle with a score of 15.9. Lakeridge won the boys boardercross title with a combined time of 148.41, while Summit was second (148.74). Ashland placed seventh (158.53), North Medford was eighth (159.37) and South Medford finished last (164.01) in the 11-team field. In boys slopestyle, Summit captured the crown with a score of 45.1. Ashland�s sixth (38.9) was the top local finish. North Medford placed seventh (37.9) and South Medford was 11th (31.0). Laing, representing a combined Ashland-North Medford girls team called Southern, placed third in boardercross (41.47) and fourth in slopestyle (8.3). Summit�s Lindsey Franger (40.63) and Elie Meirbachtol (40.89) finished first and second in boardercross, while Barlow�s Ellie Huffman was the slopestyle individual winner (10.7). Summit won the six-school girls� boardercross title with a time of 166.12, while Southern placed third (191.32). Summit was also victorious in the girls slopestyle (32.2), with Southern finishing sixth (24.5).
